Getting Started

Welcome to Occam's Model

Occam's Model helps you understand and work with your business's finances so that you can set long-term goals and make near-term decisions like a CFO.

In A Nutshell

Upload your financials however you track them (sales, costs, inventory, etc.) and we automatically convert them to our cash flow waterfall. From those numbers you get:

  • A clear picture of the business. Your money traced from revenue down to cash, with what the business is worth to you each year.
  • A grade. One score out of 100 across revenue, margins, marketing and financial stability, measured against industry benchmarks.
  • Tested decisions. A price rise, a cost cut or new payment terms, tried on a copy of your business first.
  • A plan for the next two to five years. The business you want at month 24, a month-by-month forecast of the path there, and, if you want it, years three to five.
  • Answers. Questions about your own numbers, answered by Occam, the AI advisor, and on Advisory by an expert.

We also encourage you to complete the free personal audit to quantify the exact financial outcome you need for your household's goals. As an owner of a small business, personal and business finances are interwoven, so your goal-setting should be too.

How This Manual Is Organized

The guides follow the order most owners work in. Start at the top; each section links to the next.

What's Free

Setting up your business, the import, the financial summary and breakdown, the overall score, the personal audit and goal-setting, the working modules for your 2- or 5-year forecast and one custom decision analysis are free.

When You're Ready to Upgrade

Solo ($99 a month) and Advisory ($499 a month) add the detailed results, "design-by-prompt" for forecasting and decision making, and the chat with Occam, who responds to the exact module you're working in. Each guide says which plan a step needs.

Common Questions

Where do I start?
With the Quickstart Guide. It takes you from your books to your first tested decision in four steps.

Do I need to connect my bank or accounting software?
No. The import reads files you upload, such as a spreadsheet or an export from your bookkeeping software. It doesn't connect to either.
