Joao Galbier

(pronounced joe-ow)

Founder of Occam's Model, and the expert you work with on Advisory and Partner.

Eight years building the financial models that decide what a business is worth and where its cash goes: investment banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, private equity at EagleTree Capital, and corporate development at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Now that experience goes to work on your business.

Track Record

Three firms where a financial model has to hold up in front of a buyer, a lender, or an investment committee, and the business built on what they taught.

  1. 2018–2020

    Bank of America Merrill Lynch

    Investment Banking Analyst, New York

Covered chemicals, transportation, manufacturing, and water infrastructure in the Global Industrials Group, finishing the two-year program as a top-ranked analyst. Ran sell-side M&A processes from first outreach to signed contracts, and worked on equity and high-yield debt raises, building the three-statement models, valuations, and offering materials that buyers and investors decide on.

Your numbers get read the way a buyer or a lender would read them.

  2. 2020–2021

    EagleTree Capital

    Private Equity Associate, New York

Invested out of a $1.1 billion middle-market buyout fund. On deal teams of three or four, owned the modeling from first review to close: bottom-up three-statement models, LBO analysis, debt negotiations, and tax-efficient deal structures. After closing, worked directly with portfolio company leadership, from renegotiating loan covenants and forecasting cash through pandemic shutdowns at Moss to backing a former CFO's roll-up of small live-events businesses into Arc Network.

Practice managing cash, debt, and growth from inside a business, not just from a spreadsheet.

  3. 2022–2024

    Thermo Fisher Scientific

    Corporate Development Manager, Waltham, Massachusetts

Served as deal captain on life sciences acquisitions, leading cross-functional teams of 40 to 100+ people through diligence, synergy and forecast modeling, and investment committee memos. Worked on transactions in the US, France, Sweden, Brazil, and New Zealand, from tens of millions of dollars up to the $3.1 billion acquisition of Olink Proteomics.

Forecasts built to survive people whose job is to find the holes in them.

  4. 2024–Now

    Occam's Model

    Founder & CEO, Greenwich, Connecticut

Built Occam's Model to put that same rigor in front of owners who were never trained in finance: forecasts, after-tax cash flow, and benchmarks against peers. Designs the product, writes the software, and works directly with every Advisory and Partner client.

The person who built the tools is the person answering your questions.

Education: University of Richmond, magna cum laude. B.S.B.A. in Finance and B.S. in Interdisciplinary Physics and Math.

Why Occam's Model Exists

Most business owners are experts at their craft, but nobody ever trained them in the financial side of running a business. I founded Occam's Model to fix that.

I pair a physicist's love of simplicity (Occam's Razor, hence the name) with an investor's focus on profitability.

I make sure you're not spending time on the wrong things today, or building toward a cliff tomorrow.
